What I Watched: July + May & June

I didn’t really consider it at the time but maybe relaunching this blog at the same time as starting a new job, may not have been the best idea.

Anyway, I’m here now. I am a huge movie fan, and anyone who saw my blog before the relaunch will know that. So these monthly posts are primarily for my benefit, to remind myself of the films I’ve seen over the previous months, and eventually years! If any readers are interested though, I do like to discover new, and often peculiar, small independent films that you may not have heard of before.

Now I’m publishing my list of watched films from the last three months as I’ve had these ready to go since May, because at the time I didn’t realise it would take this long to get this blog back up and running. I suppose that I could have just published July’s list – I still have the whole 2018 list on my laptop – but I saw some great movies over the last three months that I wanted to share.

[Movie]*: Already Seen this Year

At the beginning of this year I set myself a challenge to watch more movies than I did in 2017, as well as more films that were new to me. I started the year well, with almost fifty movies in January and February alone, but the last few months seemed to have slowed down again. Whether it’s me, or the warmer weather and longer days are taking me away from the television, I don’t know, but I do know that I want to start raising my monthly totals again.

As always, I have favourites from over the last three months, and most of them in May. Two films that I’d been wanting to see for a long time are Jane Wants A Boyfriend and Avengers: Infinity War. Two completely different films from different ends of the spectrum in every way, but both extremely good watches. The majority of the films above I had seen before and so knew that I would enjoy them. Push is one of my all-time favourite films, Colossal and Gifted are relatively recent releases and I love them both and anything Marvel usually gets a thumbs up from me.

There were surprises as well though. I finally got around to watching the new Ghostbusters movie and it proved to be better than I was expecting. I mean, it can’t compare to the original movies but it’s good nonetheless. The most surprising film though was Already Tomorrow in Hong Kong. I had no idea what it was before I watched it but I was scrolling through NowTV one evening and the poster caught my eye. Often I’ll choose to watch something just because of the poster or DVD cover, and 99% of the time I find an amazing new movie, and this was one of those times. It’s quite slow paced with no action, just conversation but the ending was one of those that makes you shout “What the F***?!” Definitely recommended.

Have you seen any of these? I’d love to know what you think.
